Neighborhood overview
Plaka is a friendly village located 25Km from the main Chania City center. It belongs to municipality of Apokoronas region along with the neighbouring villages of Almyrida & kalyves. It is built in a low hill (70m high) less than 1.5 km from the closest beach of Almyrida.
Plaka is one of the few areas that combine both sea and mountain views as you also have view of the White mountains. It is a small village that still retains its traditional character, surrounded by lovely natural environment full of olive trees and various vegetation.
Guests of Plaka can find all basic amenities, such as mini markets, café and taverns all located in the main square of the village.
Plaka has about 400 permanent inhabitants, half of whom are foreigners, mainly British. Most of the native inhabitants are farmers and the production of wine, oil and raki (tsikoudia) is very common.
Plaka is ideal for people who really want to relax on their holidays and enjoy nature and the less touristy side of Crete
Getting around
